Meet Josh from Moon Gazer Farms
Moon Gazer Farms is in an incredibly special part of the country. Located in Mendocino County, CA, where it’s possible to grow full season cannabis outside in the sun. This is one of the reasons why cannabis cultivation has become a heritage tradition in the Emerald Triangle. Moon Gazer chooses to honor the plant and their land by following the natural rhythm of the sun, moon, and the seasons.
While many cultivators choose to grow their plants from clones- as this style can lend to a more consistent final product, Moon Gazer chooses to grow from seeds- the plants are stronger and more pest resistant when grown from seed without growth hormones. Each seed is a little bit different which creates more variation in their flowers. We love the diversity this creates from the flower Moon Gazer cultivates.
At Moon Gazer, Josh and Sandra build their own soil, a practice known as hugelkulture. They choose to build their soil instead of buying it so that they’re fully aware of all that is in it; everything comes from their farm or nearby. This is all part of a closed loop system. Moon Gazer cleans the dead trees from their forest (which are a fire hazard), they layer that with native soil and manure from their animals, and then mulch to hold the moisture in the ground to save on water use. It’s a beautiful thing.
In an organic nutshell, here’s why we love Moon Gazer Farms:
- They are committed to regenerative farming practices
- Each of their plants is a unique expression of the time and place in which it was grown.
- Their farm holds two farming certifications: Demeter Biodynamic and Dragonfly Earth Medicine.
- Every batch of their flower is produced in super small batches.
